A common issue with wisdom teeth is that they become trapped and don't come through the gum as they should. This is referred to as having impacted wisdom teeth, and the patient may or may not experience pain, so having regular dental checks is key to detecting this. Left untreated, impacted wisdom teeth can create problems for your existing teeth, so it's best to deal with them early on.

Removal of Wisdom Teeth

Statistics show that around 80% of wisdom teeth have to be removed, and early intervention is better to aid healing afterwards. Done under local anaesthetic, the process is relatively straightforward, and recovery is generally a few days post-procedure.

In some cases, patients may be referred to an oral surgeon to remove wisdom teeth in a hospital under a general anaesthetic. There is also the option of using intravenous (IV) sedation to avoid a hospital stay, and we can discuss all of these possibilities with you.

Before undergoing any treatment, patients must also make us aware of any medication they’re currently taking or if they have any general health problems or allergies to medications.
